DNO
Oil and gas companies more often than not operate in countries where risk really does have a capital 'R' - and DNO is no exception to this rule. With operations in Kurdistan, Iraq - where the world's media currently holds the spotlight, extracting value for shareholders, and convincing all of its audiences that its licence ownership rights, central government relations and of course its own development plans were all on track is a challenge for all advisors to the management.
Throughout 2005-06, Buchanan worked closely with DNO to revise and rebrand its investor materials and key investment themes, extending from press releases and corporate presentations to its annual reports. This was to provide the company with the right platform to communicate to the global investment community and the media.
Media introductions focused on developing close relationships with wire commentators, in parallel with energy journalists at international newspapers. Establishing dialogue between the management of DNO and the media, when the evolving story of Iraq oil was changing on an hourly basis, was central to keeping neutral, factual commentary feeding in to the market. First mover advantage for the company meant also being a lead commentator when new developments hit the media.
Today, DNO awaits its export licence for its oil, and in the meantime it has commenced domestic sales of oil, keeping its development plans and media comment tight - but on track for its shareholders.
